Financial literacy
Gloria Preece, a faculty member at Indiana University Kokomo's School of Business, will provide two series of financial literacy workshops this fall at the Carver Community Center in Kokomo. The first workshop series, designed for entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses, will focus on the financial considerations of small, for-profit and not-for-profit operations. The second workshop series is dedicated to family literacy, offering guidance on household budgeting, banking, managing big expenses, and other topics.
With funding from Indiana University's Regional Economic Development (RED) Fund, Dr. Preece worked with Carver's assistant director, Martha Warner, to design workshops that would address the most pressing financial issues among business owners and families. Following each class, participants will have an opportunity to work directly with Dr. Preece while enjoying an informal dinner of pizza. To allow parents to focus on the content of the workshops, Carver Center employees will provide childcare for those taking the classes. Gloria Preece is an expert in family financial literacy and worked in private industry in marketing and business management prior to joining the faculty at IU Kokomo. |
